Work, yes, only at that place are drawbacks (that near likely don't matter). The thread pitch is likely smaller and the tooth shape may exist unlike as well, so the holding strength may be slightly reduced/more prone to stripping. Similarly drywall screws are non ideal either. Just that random screw collecting does come up in handy and either will be plenty for nigh quick DIY applications

You can use sheet metal screws for some things being attached to forest... but not for other things.

I often use canvass metal screws for but for the head I can use a nut driver on. Is so much easier to bulldoze those into dumbo, dry studs than a wood screw with a Philips head on it.
